The Fab Five Multigen Australian Labradoodle litter from Peanut and Scotchie will be 5 weeks old on November 19th, 2015 so time for a temperament assessment report on the puppies.
From the very first day of their lives, we devote many hours each day observing the puppies and recording information about each of them. These notes help us to determine the perfect match between labradoodle puppy and family.
At this point in time the puppies are still developing and as such, traits reported today may not necessarily be as dominant even in a week from now. By observing the puppies on a daily basis we are able to measure whether the puppy has had a phase or if it is a true personality characteristic.
First up is red girl as she still is the pup that usually masters new things first. She was the first one to learn how to get out of the xpen and start exploring the entire room. Her tail wags like crazy as soon as she hears the door to their room open up and when she hears a voice calling “puppy puppy” she starts to wiggle her entire body and gets so excited to be picked up and gives lots of kisses. She never makes a mistake about where to go to the bathroom – always on the pads and she is a big eater. She also complains the most when we leave (if she is still awake) and she is the first to tell us when the puppies wake up and want company.
Smart, communicative, cuddly and adventurous.
Next is brown girl. Brown is a character and a half. She has a tail that wags like mad and she has a growl that she likes to use to be sure everyone knows if she doesn’t like what is going on. She craves human contact and although she doesn’t look to people for reassurance in a new situation, she does look to people for comfort and love. She is quick to respond in kind with lots of snuggles and kisses. Brown is always the first of the pups to check out the new toys in the room and she doesn’t hesitate to take on some of the big dogs’ toys. When Bijoux or Pippa tell her off she is confident enough to stand up to them. Confident, communicative and demonstrative are all strong traits. Clear signs of therapy dog ability are present in this girl. She would stand by her human with utter loyalty and defend them to the death. She likes to be important to her people.
Pink girl is the worry wart of the group. She quite often sits down and gives a cry because she isn’t sure what is happening. If I am taking the pups out of their nest for playtime and she is perhaps the 3rd pup I take out, she cries after the first and second pup go and she is left behind. She is quite persistent in her cries and doesn’t hesitate to raise her voice if no-one
responds the way she would like them to. As soon as she is picked up and cuddled though she melts and molds herself to your body in order to be as close as possible. Pink also knows all about going on the pads without fail and she is very fond of our other dogs – she looks to them for reassurance. Pink does not have the same level of confidence as Red and Brown but she knows how to work with that and make herself comfortable and happy with life. Affectionate, needs people and returns love easily are her traits.
Mauve girl is a contradiction. She is often a cry baby when things don’t go her way but she also is sometimes very adventurous. She doesn’t hesitate to use her voice to express many different things and has no problem telling the other puppies off if they are not behaving in a manner that she approves of. She is well able to remember to pee and poo on the pads. Mauve still nurses the most from Peanut and eats the least amount of mush. She clearly prefers the comfort she gets from nursing even more than the sustenance. Mauve craves comfort from touch whether human or canine. She has great sensitivity and responds to how her surrounding litter mates and humans are feeling more than developing her own feelings.
And finally our Boy. Boy is the most even and mild mannered puppy I have ever known. Nothing upsets him and he is very quiet. He has learned not to even both trying to compete with 4 sisters. Boy is smack dab in the middle of the group, never first, never last. He never complains but simply lives life. He is exceptionally sensitive even at this young age and is immediately aware if I am unhappy or stressed. The therapy lines are clearly evident in this boy.
