Eye contact is an indication your labradoodle puppy is aware of you, attentive and measuring your emotions. A common trait all therapy dogs share, is strong eye contact.
In this week’s video, watch as the Calligraphy puppies begin to initiate eye contact with Claire when she speaks. Now that the puppies can hear, they are able to find who is talking and establish a greater understanding of the person through eye contact.
The tone and cadence of your voice is an important tool when you communicate with your Labradoodle. While they may not understand all the words you are saying, your expression and tone of voice will tell them almost as much, and sometimes more, than your words.

It’s week 5 for these little Australian Labradoodle puppies from the Shadow Pebbles litter. And those razor sharp teeth are in full force! Ouch! Bite inhibition is beginning as we start to teach these puppies that our skin and clothing is not to go in their mouths.

In this week 3 update for the puppies from our Shadow Pebbles litter, we explore how to build on the natural instincts of our labradoodles to gently guide them into adapting to life with people.

We discuss how desensitization is key in building a solid foundation for a calm, well-adjusted adult dog.

You’ll discover how understanding your dog’s natural behaviours can help you guide them to behave in a way that fits into our world. For example, knowing that dogs are drawn to a den-like environment, we introduce the crate (without the door) at the puppy’s own pace. They soon discover on their own it is a cosy, safe space to retreat for much-needed rest away from playful littermates. Rather than waiting for the puppies to be almost ready to go home and then forcing them into a crate and letting them “cry it out” as they are worn down into accepting being locked in a crate, this natural approach from an early age assists in your puppy associating their crate with something good. It’s a much easier and less stressful event when it comes time to close the door.

Plus, we share tips on proving yourself to your puppy and knowing when to withdraw your puppy from situations they aren’t quite ready for.
