The All Blacks/Milky way puppies are 2 weeks old today and they can all see! I can’t imagine what it must be like as a puppy when your eyes first open and you see all that is surrounding you. Of course, their eyes don’t focus well yet so everything is just a big blur but still it must be quite the thing when your eyelids unseal and all is revealed.
It’s been a big week for the puppies because of the opening of their eyes. They are also starting to stand on all 4 legs now and do some tottering about. Bijoux is also comfortable leaving them alone for longer periods of time now and enjoying herself outdoors and on our laps.
It won’t be much longer before it’s time to move everyone out of the nest and into the nursery where they will have more room to stretch those ever-growing legs and experience even more new sights.
The puppies’ ears are still not open so they can’t hear yet and Bijoux still assists them with elimination but that is all starting to change too. Taylor, our amazing assistant, helped me with the pictures for this week’s update as Renald is out of town and Tux peed all over her as soon as she picked him up. Once they start eliminating on their own then we take our cue that they are getting close to being ready to move out to the nursery. We do wait until their ears are fully open before we make the move though.
Bijoux is eating about 4 to 5 times more than she usually does in order to keep up with the demands of the puppies.

We feed her a very high calorie diet with duck as the primary protein source, Kefir for extra probiotics and calcium, fresh lamb, liver (both beef and lamb) barley, rice, chicken, sweet potato and lamb bone broth along with pumpkin at every meal. It doesn’t take long for her to gobble everything up and food is provided to her every 4 hours. We also supplement her with a special mineral formula for more calcium and other necessary minerals and we also have a special vitamin and fermented product we give to her as well to keep everything running smoothly and to provide the puppies with the best possible nutrition.
The lucky families on the All Blacks/Milky Way list will be able to see their puppies in real life in just two weeks from now! That is always a very exciting time for all of us and for the pups as well.
