Chocolate Milk Birth

A Marathon and Record

Toward the end of the evening on April 16th, Oceana started the process of preparing to deliver the Chocolate Milk litter of Australian Labradoodle puppies.

Everything was already in place for the delivery and we waited patiently for things to progress.  At about 11 pm nothing much had happened so we went off to bed and took Oceana with us so we would be right there for her once things got underway.

At about 1:15 am on April 17th Oceana woke me up but it was a false alarm and just required a trip outside.  Then around 3:00 she woke me up again and things were starting to happen

This litter was a bit of a marathon in that it started with the first puppy being born at 4:44 am and the last puppy didn’t arrive until 12:35 pm in the afternoon.  Oceana was amazing with the energy and grace she handled this lengthy process.  At the end of it all we have 10 gorgeous Australian Labradoodle puppies.  8 girls and 2 boys.

The 2 boys are both black and the girls are caramel, caramel parti, cream, gold and black parti.  Everyone is happy, healthy and doing incredibly well.

To ensure all the puppies have equal time at the milk bar we planned to rotate the pups, however, they are doing this all on their own.  This does mean that Oceana is almost constantly nursing but she is enjoying the opportunity to be able to eat all she possibly can to keep up.  We have Oceana on a special high calorie, high calcium and high fat diet to help her keep up with all those mouths that want feeding.

We so very proud of Oceana and also of our Bruno as this is his debut litter.  Clearly Bruno likes to produce girls and lots of them!  The puppies are all stellar so we are very excited to be using Bruno again in the future.  We couldn’t be happier with what these two beauties have created together for Labradoodle lovers and in particular the families on the Chocolate Milk litter to enjoy.  Oceana and Bruno have made history by having the largest litter ever for Van Isle Labradoodles.
