Shake It Up puppies born

We are so excited for our biggest announcement yet, Shake It Up litter is the largest litter we have had here at Van Isle! 11 gorgeous medium, multigeneration Australian Labradoodles. Courtesy of our Breezy and Bruno.

We knew Breezy would give us a few puppies, as she was a very good size during her pregnancy. But we never imagined it would be 11 of them! Our previous record for largest litter was held by Breezys mama, Oceana. Oceana had given us 10 puppies. So this line obviously produces a great many puppies, which is good for us and great for our families. It’s a lot of work for our girls, so we are giving Breezy a lot of extra special care and attention.

Breezys labour went smoothly, she did an amazing job. Aside from the size of this litter, another unexpected surprise is the coloring. Statistically Bruno and Breezy could have produced black puppies, but it was more likely to get cream, or chocolate. But this litter is all black and white puppies or solid black. So that just goes to prove, mother nature likes to make sure we know who’s boss. We have a beautiful range of patterns and markings as well, lots of variety and no two puppies look alike.

Chocolate Parti pattern Mama dog, lying on her side with a bundle of newborn puppies nursing. The puppies are black, and black and white parti patterns. There are 11 puppies in this litter.

With a litter this size we will be monitoring the puppies weights closely to ensure everyone is getting their fair share at the milk bar. So far they are sharing nicely. Breezy is working hard to provide for all these little ones, so we are giving her extra attention. She gets extra food, extra supplements and extra support to ensure she stays in good condition.

She also needs to drink a lot of water to keep hydrated. Sometimes new moms need some encouragement to drink, so we might add some liver or chicken broth to their water. Breezy, so far, has a good appetite and is drinking well so that is encouraging. After a little bit of encouragement she is also getting much more comfortable with going outside for a few minutes to go to the bathroom.
