Well hello world!  Wow, this place sure has a lot of things to look at and so many sounds going on all around us.

I expect that is likely what is going through the heads of the Pawsitively Perfect labradoodle puppy brains now that they can see a bit better and their ears are opening up.  Plus, they’ve moved!  These labradoodle puppies from Pippa and Paddington are the first resident puppies in our brand-new Doodle Cave.Check back for our upcoming post of the Doodle Cave’s creation from inception to almost completion. We are still waiting for some cupboards to be made but otherwise are enjoying our new cave.

Back to the puppies! The kids handled the move easily with not even the slightest bit of hesitation or shyness when we moved them to their nursery area. They are now all sleeping/nesting in a medium sized crate. We introduce our labradoodle puppies to the crate as soon as their eyes are open. This way our puppies are entirely accustomed to sleeping in a crate and having a crate as their safe spot right from their earliest memory. This helps to make the transition to your home from ours much easier for the puppy as he knows the crate is his own home regardless of what human home it is in.

I have been trying a variety of different labradoodle puppy foods for them to see what tickles their taste buds and I think I have found the winning formula – evaporated milk with a bit of Pablum mixed in. Red collar boy was the first puppy to figure out how to lap up the food well enough to get some of it into his tummy rather than just smeared all over himself and the other puppies.

If you have never seen puppies learn to lap you have no idea what a hilarious process it is and how messy it can be!  All the puppies are quite sticky and crusty these days from all the Pablum goo stuck to themselves.  I think Pippa is a bit annoyed at me for creating so much clean up duty for her.

We have also introduced the puppies to their litter box and so far, we have 100% success with that.  Of course, we set them up for success as we always try to do with everything involving the labradoodles whether puppy or adult.  We have a boot tray filled with wood pellets located pretty much immediately outside of the puppy crate so they can’t help but walk into the litter box.  Puppies pretty much pee as soon as they get out of the crate nest so this way they learn immediately the litter box is the place where we go to the bathroom.

Getting the puppies over to the milk saucer is quite an adventure for these little tottering babies.  Their legs are still quite shaky and it takes a lot of effort and navigational skill to make their way over to where the new milk bar is located which is only about 20 inches from their crate nest.  Pippa is helping out very well with the start of the weaning process and is quite content to have them find the new milk bar.  Their emerging teeth and always sharp claws are not the most comfortable thing to have on her sensitive stomach skin area.  I cut the puppies’ claws about every 3 days to try and keep them as dull as possible but like everything else about these little tykes, they grow like weeds right now!

Personalities are starting to become more obvious for each of the puppies and I have noted their primary characteristics in their stats chart along with their weight gain over the past week.  As you can see, we now have two of the puppies weighing in at over 1 kg.  I still convert everything back to pounds and ounces as I am too old to have it make sense to me in metric!  But by either measurement, they are doing well.  We are very pleased with all their progress and their incredible fleece coats with exceptional colouring.  You can see some gorgeous mahogany highlights in pink and orange collar and red collar is holding steady with a deep strong chocolate colour.  Purple collar is a beautiful rich red caramel and black collar is such a gorgeous caramel shade that she looks good enough to eat.  The whole litter together is like a beautiful chocolate caramel chocolate bar topped off with a maraschino cherry!  3 of my favourite things!
