Embracing Puppy Chaos: Our Approach to Multiple Litters

Breeding Australian Labradoodles may look simple enough, but at times, it can be challenging. Recently, we welcomed four litters within 10 days! While this might sound overwhelming, we’re here to shed some light on why this happens and how we manage it with a smile.

THE REALITY OF BREEDING CYCLES

We strategically plan our litters far in advance. As far as 3 or 4 years out! We consulted our expert IT guru for help with organizing the breeding schedule. Jeremy, our guru, went to work and developed specialized software that calculates every girl’s cycle and then averages all of those and each girl’s unique timing. This allows us to project when a girl will cycle and make appropriate decisions around what cycles to breed on and which cycles to skip. All with the goal of not having multiple litters at the same time

But Nature loves to keep us on our toes! Just like humans, dogs have natural cycles, which can sometimes align unexpectedly. This time around, we had two girls cycle on schedule, one cycle late and another cycle early. The result? A whirlwind of puppies in a short span. We had a quiet 13 weeks without any puppies being born and now, we’re in the middle of a puppy boom. It’s a bit like having all your family birthdays in the same month – chaotic but filled with love and excitement.

Planned and Reserved Litters

One of the key practices that distinguish reputable breeders is planning and reservation. Our puppies are reserved 6 to 18 months in advance, ensuring that each litter has a loving home waiting for them. We do not breed our dogs unless their litter is fully reserved. This means that when our girls cycle simultaneously, we breed them to fulfill our commitment to the families who have placed deposits and are eagerly waiting for their new family members. This practice ensures that no puppies are without homes and that every breeding decision is made with the puppies’ best interests in mind.

Purpose-Built Home

Our home is designed to accommodate up to five litters at once comfortably. We have three separate maternity wards, each with its own heating and air conditioning. This setup ensures a cozy, safe environment for Mama and her puppies, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Each area can be quickly sanitized to maintain top-notch cleanliness and hygiene.

Dedicated and Experienced Team

Handling multiple litters requires a dedicated team, and we have a fantastic one. Our team includes two full-time members, one flexible worker, and four casual workers who jump in as needed. Claire and Renald live full-time with the dogs and provide round-the-clock care. This team structure ensures every puppy gets the attention and care they need, from feeding and cleaning to socialisation and early training.

In-Home Care and Socialisation

Our puppies are raised in our home, not in cages or separate buildings. They are part of our daily lives, exposed to all the usual household noises and activities. This helps them adapt to family life more easily when they move to their new homes. Constant supervision and care ensure each puppy is healthy, happy and well-socialised.

Specialised Care and Training

We have a certified puppy trainer who works with each puppy, ensuring they receive the early training and socialisation they need. Claire, a certified canine nutritionist with additional training as a canine behaviourist, is always involved with the puppies. Our team of veterinary staff is on hand to provide medical care and support, ensuring the health of our puppies is never compromised.

Focused on the Puppies' Well-Being

Breeding dogs is our passion and our sole focus. We don’t have outside employment or children living with us, so our attention is entirely on the puppies and their needs. This ensures every aspect of our breeding program is centred around the well-being of our Mama Labradoodles and their puppies.

In Summary

Yes, having multiple litters at once might seem a bit crazy, but it’s all part of the natural rhythm of dog breeding. We plan carefully but aren’t taken by surprise when our plans go awry! How can we complain when we are surrounded by so much puppy adorableness? Ready to meet your new family member? We promise they’re worth the wait! Check out our current availability here:
