After a week away for surgery, Mama Labradoodle, Orca is back with her adorable puppies. During her absence, we tube-fed the puppies every 3 hours, ensuring they stayed healthy and strong. Now, Orca’s milk is back, and the puppies are thriving. The puppies have also started eating solid food.

In this video, we share the numbers for these healthy and chubby Labradoodle puppies who have gained between 450% and 580% of their birth weight.

Can dogs see colors?
Puppies don’t open their eyes until they are around 2 weeks old.
Their nervous system isn’t developed enough for them to handle all the stimuli from being able to see until they are between 2 and 3 weeks old.
Labradoodle puppies will all have blue eyes initially but they will change to amber, hazel or deep chocolate brown as they get older.
Once their eyes are open, do puppies see colors like we do?
While they do see some colors, they don’t see all colors like we do.
Puppies can’t see red or orange well, for instance.

Mama Labradoodle Orca is back in the Doodle Den!

After a medical leave of absence, Orca received the all clear to come back to her puppies. The puppies were overjoyed to have that warm, caring, soft Mama body to curl up against. While we can fulfil all the nutritional needs of the puppies and give them endless snuggles, nothing beats the love of a Mama dog.

Orca is settling back in comfortably and while she still tires easily as she recovers physically, you can see the happiness in her eyes to be back with her little family of medium Australian Labradoodles

The other important aspect of having curls in some ALDs is if you continually breed for one specific trait, you are also including the same mutations over and over. This means it’s more likely in the future for the same mutations to meet up and cause a health issue. Experienced Labradoodle breeders know how to manage their genetics so their dogs stay as healthy as possible.
